Before changing drivers or downloading a repair app, work through these built-in steps in order. They are appropriate for headphones, speakers, keyboards, mice and many other Bluetooth accessories.
1. Confirm Bluetooth is on
Open Start → Settings → Bluetooth & devices. Turn Bluetooth on. If there is no Bluetooth switch, your PC may not have a Bluetooth adapter or Windows may not be recognising it.
2. Put the accessory into pairing mode
Most headphones and speakers need a long press on their power or Bluetooth button until a light flashes. Check the manufacturer’s instructions for the exact method. If the accessory is already paired to a phone or another computer, disconnect it there first.
3. Remove it, then add it again
In Settings → Bluetooth & devices, find the problem device, open the three-dot menu and choose Remove device. Then select Add device → Bluetooth and choose it from the list. Only confirm the pairing code if it matches on both devices.
4. Toggle Bluetooth and restart
Turn Bluetooth off, wait about 10 seconds, then turn it back on. If it still will not connect, choose Start → Power → Restart and try pairing again after Windows starts.
5. Use the built-in troubleshooting and updates
On Windows 11, search for Get Help from Start and run the Bluetooth troubleshooter. Then go to Settings → Windows Update → Check for updates. Install normal Windows updates and restart when asked.
6. If the device keeps disconnecting
Move closer, charge the accessory and temporarily switch off other nearby Bluetooth devices you do not need. Wireless interference and a low battery can make audio or input devices unreliable.
